Upgrading Holland Sports Athletics Club Track to create a community Sports Hub

WHAT DO WE WANT TO DO?

We seek to improve the facilities at our track to match most clubs in Surrey. Subject to raising funding we seek to invest to firstly provide LED Flood Lights around the entire track, secondly convert the old cinder track into a synthetic one (including 8-line sprint track  with a steeple chase facilities and throwing & jumping  areas (attracting coaches, competitions & officials). Once this need is met, any additional money will be used to purchase athletics equipment, such as hurdles and high jumping mats. With additional funding we will be able to add equipment and facilities to maximise the use and appearance of the track.

WHO WILL BENEFIT?

We intend to use the upgraded facility to act as a Community Sports Hub allowing Holland track  to host athletics events and competitions for Holland Sports AC athletes, Local Schools and community event organisers. With a sufficiently developed facility we believe it would Support and Host life changing sport opportunities e.g.  Annual community Charity Road Run, local Junior Triathlon in addition to  3 to 4  general open Athletics events per year  as well as bringing local top class athletics competition leagues to our Holland Sports Athletics Club Track.

The upgraded Holland Sports Track will be able to fund its maintenance and promote community involvement through participation, family support/officiating and championing community  development e.g.  utilising  off-site parking @ Moor House school  This will  enable more  individuals to come to our floodlit track, as it becomes a community magnet and a sports hub for a wide range of  sporting opportunities. 

Uniquely our Track will seek to be self-financed & continue to offer free public access to a top sporting  facility right in the heart of our community.

WHY A COMMUNITY SPORT HUB?

The upgraded flood lights & track will provide multiple opportunities for creating something we call a community sports hub.

In addition to supporting the development of our Holland Sports athletics club athletes it will  provide facilities for schools, individuals & families in our local community.

We are aware of the importance of sport to our community (even more so after COVID 19 and in challenging times for young people). Our investment starts with athletics but expands to facilitate and deliver wider activities in our community.

WHAT DIFFERENCES WILL OUR PROJECT MAKE TO YOU & OUR COMMMUNITY?

The following list (in no order of priority) highlights the life changing impact of our project

• Expanded Holland Sports Athletic Club membership (young and old). A safe and secure track would be available for all sports Club users – including our now expanding Senior group.

• Raising sport/ health benefits in athletics/running – an impressive & exciting Tartan Track (polyurethane track) and facilities for athletics club along with community access, use & opportunities. It would  attract athletes, coaches, athletics officials and helpers interested in athletics and Holland Sports.

• Sustainability - the Track element of the Community Hub will crucially allow for finances to be generated to initially maintain the track and to plan for re surfacing (after 10-20 years) along with supporting (when possible) the maintenance of the Trim Trail (the community have repeatedly identified this as a life changing community facility).

• An upgraded track would allow Holland to hold such revenue raising events. Young athletes would  pay for and attend “organised open” athletics competitions , steeple chase facilities would be a niche event whilst our Seniors attend longer track/road  events –

• Expanding sporting opportunities in the area – In addition to an annual Holland Sports Community Fun Run events like a local Triathlon using Moor house swimming pool/ Holland  track will be supported. Such events are good for our community and also fund our maintenance of facilities.

• Parking – With the partnership and support of Moor House school new parking will be available for users in out of school hours. The project will seek Council support to maximise the exiting

parking and transport for the benefit of the Mill Lane community.

• Supporting Primary & Secondary Schools Sport– We intend to create an Inspirational venue for after School sport & competitions, a venue for annual South Surrey Track & Field Championships and facility available to all Primary and secondary schools in the area. The Track facility can be used for events, GCSE assessment and coaching support.

• Expanding Children Activities based at track– a turnstile/ securely fenced track would offer a base for young Children’s activities in day and in summer with holiday camps (for athletics and general activities).

• Working with Moor Hose School and College to benefit the school and community – a gated, secured/fenced track would be available for  daily curriculum and one-off activity use.

The legacy of this investment will be its potential to enrich/change lives now and in the future for individuals, organisations and schools in our area.
